The Odisha government asserts that during the “Make in Odisha Conclave 2022,” it has expressed interest in investing Rs. 2,100 crores in the clothing and garment industry. Among the businesses that have indicated an interest in investing in the state are Page Industries, Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail, Indo Rama Synthetics, CTM Technical Textiles, and Cotton World.
The industry will provide jobs for 6,000 people thanks to a Rs. 65 crore investment from Page Industries. 5,000 employees would be employed by Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail, which is investing Rs. 45 crores in a garment facility. In Odisha, CTM Technical Textiles intends to launch its second location. It is important to note that the Odisha Apparel and Technical Textiles Policy 2022 was recently adopted by the state’s cabinet, which is chaired by chief minister Naveen Patnaik. The policy contains incentives including market development initiatives, employment cost subsidies, and capital investment subsidies.
The current garment industries were contacted when creating this most recent strategy, according to VS Ganesh, MD of Page Industries. “The inclusion of our recommendations demonstrates the honesty with which this government conducts its business.” “Many of our supply partners are anxiously awaiting our arrival to make investments.” There are now eight GI-tagged handicrafts and woven goods from Odisha that Fabindia is working with. In addition to giving artisans and weavers shareholdings, K. P. Rajendran stated that the company is looking into developing new goods and empowering the artisans through the model of community-owned businesses.
According to Amit Agarwal, Chairman of CTM Technical Textiles Ltd., Odisha has been a customer state for ten years. With high-density polyethylene now readily available, the state will see a significant increase in investment in technical textiles. According to Dr. Rajasekhar Reddy of SLN Spinning Mills, the large supply of raw materials and investor-friendly regulations will only fuel Odisha’s textile industry’s expansion. In order to lessen the burden on enterprises, he requested that the state government look into the availability of CETP.
“We need to map consumption centres in Odisha and nearby markets to cater to; that will help us make Odisha the preferred textile hub in India,” says Harsh Bapna, CEO of polyester and spinning at Alok Industries Ltd.
