MUMBAI: With the number of Covid-19 cases decreasing in the country, the government lifted export restrictions on all diagnostic kits and reagents, including instruments used in the detection of coronavirus infections.
The description of a process for all diagnostic kits and chemicals (including instruments/apparatus)… is being made free with effect immediately, according to a notification from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
The DGFT is a division of the commerce ministry that deals with export and import regulations. Due to an increase in Covid-19 instances, export restrictions on these items were established in June of last year and will be lifted on August 16, 2021. For exports of restricted commodities, an exporter must obtain a licence or permission from the government.
RT-PCR kits and chemicals, RNA extraction kits and reagents, synthetic fibre swabs, Proteinase K, magnetic stand, beads, and Covid-19 fast antigen testing kits are examples of diagnostic kits and chemical products.
The DGFT changed its earlier judgement on October 4 regarding the export of syringes with or without needles in a separate notification. It was formerly classified as prohibited for export purposes, but the restrictions will now apply exclusively to particular syringe denominations.
Furthermore, the directorate lifted a ban on the export of melt blown fabric of any GSM used in air filtration equipment, mask materials, and liquid filtering materials in another announcement.
It stated that melt blown cloth of any GSM is now freely exportable with immediate effect.
