The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) will conduct an exhibition titled “The Garment to Garment Journey” in July and August 2021 to commemorate the third anniversary of its Garment-to-Garment Recycling System (G2G).
G2G is the world’s first post-consumer garment recycling technology that can be used in retail environments. The show includes both encouraging and discouraging examples of recycled popular clothes and textiles including shirts and blouses, knitwear, and denim. It also depicts the many steps of recycling old clothing, in which they are reduced to fabric materials and subsequently refashioned into new outfits.
H&M’s G2G system was the first time a fashion shop displayed this garment-to-garment recycling technology in-store. Looop employs a method that disassembles and reassembles old clothes to create new ones. The clothes are washed, shredded into fibres, spun into fresh yarn, and knitted into new outfits. Customers may observe the full end-to-end procedure in the store in real time.
G2G is a revolutionary method that empowers consumers to take control of their own clothing reuse. The original G2G project is presently in its second phase, with a public opening date of September 2021. According to HKRITA, it is actively researching various kinds of Garment to Garment recycling and repurposing. The show runs from July 6 through August 31, 2021 at G05 to G07, The Mills, 45 Pak Tin Parc in Geneva.
