Thanjavur Collector Deepak Jacob has arranged a meeting on November 17 to boost the mini textile park scheme (MTP) among entrepreneurs in the district. The scheme aims to encourage the establishment of small-scale textile parks on two-acre plots with a minimum of three textile industrial units. The state government will provide 50% of the project cost as a grant, up to Rs 2.50 crore, to eligible entrepreneurs. The scheme has been updated to include the expenses for setting up industrial sheds and buildings, as requested by textile industrialists.
Industrial associations, groups of entrepreneurs, and societies can form a special-purpose vehicle to promote the establishment of mini textile parks. The project cost can incorporate common infrastructure facilities like roads, streetlights, compound walls, drainage, water, and electricity supply, as well as utilities such as captive power plants, effluent treatment plants, and telecommunication.
Weaving, garment manufacturers, and textile finishing units can benefit from this initiative, as setting up spinning mills would require more space and investment. Additionally, mini textile parks established in economically disadvantaged blocks of the district may be eligible for capital subsidies from the micro, small, and medium enterprises department.
