Ministry of Textiles Announces Second Edition of Viraasat Sari Festival 2023 Showcasing Handloom Heritage

The Ministry of Textiles is gearing up to host the much-awaited second edition of the Viraasat Sari Festival 2023 from December 15th to 28th at Handloom Haat, Janpath, in New Delhi. Following the tremendous success of the Virasat Sari Festival 2022, which witnessed remarkable footfall, impressive sales by handloom weavers, and significant attention to the sector, the upcoming event is expected to be grander and more captivating.

To further encourage the promotion of handwoven saris, the Ministry of Textiles previously organized two editions of the Sari Walkathon in Surat and Mumbai, drawing an overwhelming response from thousands of saree-clad women representing the pride of their respective states.

The focus of the Viraasat Sari Festival 2023 will be on showcasing handloom saris from various parts of the nation, bringing together handloom weavers, saree designers, and enthusiasts in a celebration of India’s rich handloom heritage. The event will highlight the traditional values inherent in handloom sari weaving, exemplified by the diverse and exquisite varieties such as Paithani, Kotpad, Kota Doria, Tangail, Pochampally, and many more.

The handloom sector has always been a vital part of India’s cultural heritage, providing employment opportunities, especially for women. With over 35 lakh engaged in this sector, the Viraasat Sari Festival 2023 aims to shed light on the tradition and immense potential of the handloom industry.
