MATEXIL honours top exporters as India strengthens role in advanced textiles

India has reaffirmed its growing capability in global textile markets as MoS Pabitra Margherita honoured top technical textile exporters at MATEXIL’s Awards in Mumbai, highlighting strong export growth and national confidence.

India is rising to meet the surging global demand for textiles, especially advanced, sustainable and high-performance materials, stated Shri Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for Textiles and External Affairs, during the Manmade and Technical Textiles Export Promotion Council (MATEXIL)’s Export Award Function for 2023–24 and 2024–25 held today in Mumbai.

At the ceremony, MoS Shri Margherita presented honours for export excellence in technical textiles, recognising nearly 80 top-performing exporters across diverse categories.

While congratulating the award recipients, Shri Margherita emphasised that the occasion celebrated not only the winners but the collective efforts of every worker, engineer, designer, entrepreneur and exporter who contribute to India’s textile growth.
“Your work gives strength to millions of families and pride to our nation,” he remarked.

He reiterated that man-made fibres (MMF) and technical textiles are driving a major global transition toward next-generation, sustainable materials. MMF now represents 70–75% of the global fibre market, highlighting a significant shift in global consumption patterns. “India is responding to this shift with strength and confidence,” he added.

Shri Margherita shared that India’s MMF exports registered 6.5% growth in 2024–25, while technical textiles exports expanded by over 15%, reinforcing India's position as a competitive player in this high-potential sector. With global demand continually rising, he said India is well-placed to increase its share in the international market. He also noted that the world increasingly recognises India’s reliability and product quality.

He reaffirmed India’s commitment to the long-term goals:
“Together, we move towards the goal of USD 100 billion in textile exports and a USD 350 billion textile market by 2030, aligned with our vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.”

Shri Margherita further highlighted the practical, industry-friendly approach of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Textiles Minister Shri Giriraj Singh, noting their focus on easing operational challenges and strengthening the textile value chain. He pointed to key initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and the National Technical Textiles Mission, which are enhancing competitiveness at every stage of production. He reassured that the Ministry remains committed to supporting all industry stakeholders.

The dual-year awards celebrated exceptional achievements across 2023–24 and 2024–25—a period marked by strong advancement in technical textiles driven by innovation, diversification and international expansion. Awards were presented across twelve categories, spanning agrotextiles, medical textiles, industrial textiles, protective textiles and more.

Among the prominent winners were Garware Technical Fibres Ltd., Arvind Limited and KT Exports India Pvt. Ltd., along with several other leading companies. Special awards also recognised distinguished contributions to India’s technical textiles ecosystem.

At the event, MATEXIL released its Technical Textiles Dossier. A panel discussion titled “Prospects and Potential for Technical Textiles Exports by GenNext” brought together young entrepreneurs and emerging leaders, who shared insights on global market trends, sustainability-driven opportunities and future growth avenues.

Key dignitaries in attendance included Shri Shaleen Toshniwal, Chairman, MATEXIL; Shri Pramod Khosla, Convenor of the Technical Textiles Subcommittee; Shri Bhaderesh Dodhia, Immediate Past Chairman; Shri Anil Rajvanshi, Vice Chairman; senior government officials; and other major industry stakeholders.
