Conference highlights sustainable concerns in fashion industry development

Wuhan Textile University recently hosted the second International Conference of Fashion and Sustainability, focused on the frontiers of the international fashion industry and the future of sustainable development in fashion. The three-day event, themed “Integration and Sharing,” attracted 200 representatives from various universities and industries, including 11 foreign experts.

The conference featured a series of forums addressing the challenges, problems, and measures of sustainable development in the industry. The opening ceremony, presided over by Professor Fu Xin, Vice President of Wuhan Textile University, included speeches by Professor Tian Huiyu, Party Secretary of the university, Chen Xi, Deputy Director of Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Office, and Ni Yangsheng, Head of the China Textile and Apparel Education Society.

During the keynote speech session, Xu Weilin, President of Wuhan Textile University, discussed the application of bionics in textiles, while Savvas Vassiliadis, Chairman of the World Textile Universities Congress, presented research on triboelectric nanogenerators as a potential power source for wearable systems.

Notably, Professor Erin Cho emphasized the importance of consumer awareness and suggested using artificial intelligence to predict fashion trends and consumer demand. Chen Yizhong, CEO of Yantai Pacific Home Fashion, showcased how Chinese textile and garment enterprises have embraced sustainable development through circular economy practices, sustainable production chains, and innovation in materials, technology, and fashion.

The conference also included an exhibition of student work and a fashion show highlighting sustainable development. As one of the top 10 fashion schools in mainland China, Wuhan Textile University continues to focus on fostering the sustainable development of the textile and related industries.
