Essity is a global provider of hand hygiene and wound care products, which are critical in the battle against antimicrobial resistance, which is estimated to be responsible for 10 million yearly deaths globally by 20501. Since 2017, Essity has been a partner of the United Nations Foundation.
AMR occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, and other microorganisms alter in such a manner that medicine no longer works and diseases remain in the body. AMR is mostly caused by a lack of clean water and sanitation, insufficient infection prevention/control, and drug overuse. AMR is a hazard to world health, according to 73% of the general population, and 47% are concerned or extremely concerned about AMR.
Essity is one of a handful of firms that will contribute to the United Nations-led antimicrobial resistance initiatives. It offers wound care dressings that employ a unique technique to reduce bioburden in wounds without the use of chemically active agents.
