Hisham Tawfik, Minister of Public Business Sector, announced that the world’s largest spinning and weaving factory, in Mahalla el-Kubra, will be completed and operational by March 2022, covering an area of approximately 62.5 thousand square metres.
This was revealed during a meeting convened by Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly to follow up on the spinning and weaving industry’s development plan, which includes promoting cotton cultivation.
Tawfik stated that this factory will lead to a significant advancement in the spinning and weaving industry, noting that it will be able to accommodate more than 182,000 yarn and have a daily production capacity of 30 tonnes, thus increasing the added value of cotton rather than exporting it ore abroad.
He stressed that the factory’s construction is part of the state’s overall strategy to improve and modernise the textile industry.
