The Tamil Nadu government favours creating the Cotton Corporation of Tamil Nadu under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, and at a “appropriate moment” will consider establishing a distinct commission for acquiring cotton and selling it directly to spinning mills.
“It will be beneficial if the Cotton Corporation of Tamil Nadu is established using a PPP model, in collaboration with officials from cooperative mills, private spinning mills, and associations like the Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA). In the Assembly on Friday, Minister for Handlooms and Textiles R. Gandhi said, “We will consult with the Chief Minister and will certainly do it. The Minister recalled that one of the first requests he had gotten in Coimbatore since taking office was a request for more than 20 When the Chief Minister received the request to suspend the 1% cotton market cess, he made the announcement. Mr. Gandhi also remembered the Chief Minister’s efforts to have the 11% import duty on cotton waived.
