The Central government has been urged by the Southern India Mills’ Association to waive the 11% import charge on cotton until October of this year.

The application of the charge in the 2021–22 budget, according to association head Ravi Sam, caused a sharp increase in cotton prices and weakened the competitiveness of the Indian textile industry, which is the primary consumer of cotton.
