The 2025 Australian Cotton Industry Awards are now open, inviting growers and industry professionals to nominate themselves or others in recognition of innovation, excellence, and sustainability in the Australian cotton sector. These prestigious awards celebrate the remarkable contributions of individuals and teams who are shaping the future of cotton production.
Recognizing Excellence in Cotton Farming
With an expected 5 million bales in 2025 and cotton fibre and seed projected to generate over $3.6 billion, the Australian cotton industry continues to make a significant impact on the national economy and the regional communities that drive its success.
Cotton Australia CEO, Adam Kay, highlighted the industry’s resilience despite challenges such as weather conditions, rising input costs, and evolving global regulations. He emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and best practices, all of which are key aspects of the awards program.
“One of the greatest strengths of the cotton industry is collaboration—sharing what works, learning from each other, and continually striving for better outcomes. The awards provide a platform to showcase innovation, success, and sustainability, inspiring others in the industry to adopt best practices,” Mr. Kay said.

A Past Winner’s Perspective
The 2024 Bayer Cotton Grower of the Year, Scott Balsillie, farm manager for Eastern Australia Agriculture in Dirranbandi, described the awards process as the highlight of his 25-year career in agriculture.
“I fully support the awards and encourage growers and industry professionals to nominate. It was a rewarding experience from start to finish—from the nomination process and on-farm interviews to the awards night. It also gave me a platform to speak about the positive impact of sustainable farming—an important message for the public.”
Looking ahead, Mr. Balsillie will be part of the judging panel for the 2025 Bayer Grower of the Year and AgriRisk High Achiever of the Year awards. “I’m excited to visit farms, see how other growers operate, and gain insights that can help improve our own business,” he said.
