Opportunity: Increasing demand for sustainable printing

Sustainable printing makes use of recycled and renewable resources and helps reduce the impact of printing on the environment. Process-free plates, such as cold press plates, are used, which helps to eliminate volatile compounds. The use of cold presses in printers reduces the elimination of volatile compounds in the atmosphere. The use of a digital printer prevents the replacement of plates and eventually saves time and resources. The use of water-based and UV-curable inks lowers the impact of printing on the environment by eliminating the emissions of volatile organic compounds. The rise in demand for sustainable printing is providing opportunities for growth in the packaging printing market.

Gravure segment likely to account for the 2nd largest share of packaging printing market during the forecast period.

Rotogravure is widely used for high-quality prints producing fine images that are mostly used for printing a high volume of packages. It is an intaglio printing process that uses rotary printing, which is capable of producing continuous tone images. This process consists of the printing cylinder, rubber covered impression roll, ink fountain, doctor blade, and a unit for drying ink. It uses a cylinder that rotates in the bath of ink, known as an ink pan. The ink used in rotogravure is of low viscosity, which enables it to be drawn into the engraved cells in the cylinder and then is transferred on to the substrate. As a direct print process, rotogravure printing results in enhanced ink laydown and offers consistent print quality.
