Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has urged that global garment buyers designate more shipping lines and off-docks to aid in the timely transportation of export containers.
The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) made a request to Buyers’ Forum, a group of the representatives of major apparel buyers, including H&M and M&S in the country. The CPA said that export containers loaded with readymade garment (RMG) products are facing delay at Chattogram port due to their selective nomination for shipping lines and off-docks.
BGMEA senior vice president said they have already discussed the issue with the Buyers’ Forum. He said many of the brands source garment products worth over $3 billion dollars from Bangladesh. But they nominate one or two shipping lines or forwarders to ship their products. They also allowed four to five off-docks to send their products, he said, adding that as a result, shipment has been delayed.
