Background
“Barabanki”, a dream house of luxurious apparel accessories for women is famous for weaving since the Nawab’s period. The town is situated 30 kms towards east of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. Most of the products of this cluster are exported to Middle East and other European countries.
By 1940’s, the weavers used fly shuttle throw loom to make “Lungi” from Japanese yarn but by 1960’s they started producing check lungi called “Gabroon” developed by staple yarn and “Gamchha” from cotton yarn.
Today, the product range comprise of shawls, stoles, scarves and home furnishings.
