Background
A Kancheepuram saree (also known as Kanjivaram saree) is a type of sari traditionally made by weavers from Kancheepuram located in Tamil Nadu, India
Since 2005, Kanchipuram sarees are protected by a Geographical Indication label, certifying their origin.
To weave a Kancheepuram sari three shuttles are used. While the weaver works on the night side, his aide works on the left side shuttle.
The border colour and design are usually quite different from the body. If the pallu has to be woven in a different shade, it is first separately woven and then delicately joined to the Sari. The part where the body meets the paluotten denoted by a zig zag line.
Sun, moon chariot peacock parrot, swan, tron, coin, mango, leaf and many such motifs are woven into Kancheepuram sarees. Other common mouse include jasmine bud within a square or round frame locally known as malignaggi, another i Thandavalam where parallel lines run across the body of the Saree.
