Background

Kota is famous for the production of a special type of saree called Kota Doria. It is made of pure cotton and silk and have square like pattern. It has very fine weaves and weight very less.

Kota Doria is woven on a traditional pit loom in such a fashion that it produces square checks pattern on the fabric. The delicately wrought checks are locally known as khats,
Kota sarees are popularly known as Masuria in Kota and Kota Doria outside the state. Apart from sarees, other products developed here are lamp shades, curtains, skirts and salwar kamiz.
