A groundbreaking garment factory is all set to bring over 2,000 employment opportunities to women in Chhattisgarh’s capital city, Raipur. In a significant move to empower women, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated the state’s first-of-its-kind factory. The facility, spread over an impressive area of 45,000 square feet, will be under the management of the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC).

With infrastructure development nearing completion, the factory aims to commence operations early next year. An investment of Rs 15 crore has already been made, and the project looks promising. In the initial phase, 1,000 high-tech sewing machines have been installed, with plans for expansion to accommodate even more women into the workforce.

The factory will offer employment to women with basic sewing knowledge, providing training to freshers as well. Drawing inspiration from the successful Nawa Dantewada Garment Factory, which primarily employed tribal women, this venture hopes to create a similar success story. The garments manufactured here will be competitively priced, attracting a higher demand compared to those in metro cities.

Operating under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the RMC plans to appoint a consultant who will engage with leading readymade garment companies across the country. RMC officials will conduct site visits to understand and implement successful models in other states. With optimistic projections, the RMC anticipates manufacturing operations to commence by early next year.

This new venture not only brings hope for the economic development of the region but also serves as a remarkable step towards women’s empowerment in Chhattisgarh.
