Expressing concern over the call given by open-end spinning mills for a three-week strike, the AIADMK general secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, made an appeal to the DMK government on Tuesday. Palaniswami urged the government to invite representatives from the mills for talks with the aim of persuading them to abandon the proposed strike.
In a statement, Palaniswami highlighted the mill owners’ demand for a reduction in the electricity tariff, criticizing the government for failing to address this issue adequately. He compared the current tariff to the rates during the previous AIADMK government, emphasizing the need for a more favourable tariff structure.
Palaniswami stressed the urgency of resolving the matter by urging the authorities to summon the mills’ representatives from Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts for negotiations. By bringing all stakeholders together, he hoped for a constructive dialogue that would lead to a resolution.
Adding to the mounting pressure on the DMK government, AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran also sought the intervention of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in addressing the concerns raised by the spinning mills. This further highlights the significance of resolving the issue swiftly.
The strike call from the open-end spinning mills has sparked concerns about potential disruptions to the textile industry and its impact on the livelihoods of workers. As both opposition leaders emphasize the need for immediate action, it remains to be seen how the DMK government will respond and address the demands of the spinning mills.
