The Cradle to Cradle standard assesses product safety to humans and the environment, as well as product design for material reuse. With a four-tier improvement system, the standard aims to encourage businesses to develop products for closed-loop systems and eliminate waste. Work is under way to create the next version (V4) of the standard and is expected to be completed in 2018.
