In a crucial meeting held at Shri Halari Oswal Hall, members of the Bhiwandi Weavers Association and various stakeholders gathered to address the pressing issues plaguing the local textile industry. Following in-depth discussions, a unanimous decision was reached to temporarily shut down operations for a period of 20 days, effectively closing Bhiwandi from November 1 to November 20, 2023.

Multiple factors contributed to this critical decision, including a dearth of orders, sluggish movement of textiles, low demand, the onset of the holiday season, and other interconnected challenges. Harsh Haria, a representative from PDEXCIL, highlighted the complete lack of demand for fabrics during the Diwali festivities as a key reason prompting this impactful choice by all Bhiwandi associations.

While acknowledging the far-reaching implications of the closure on the industry’s value chain, power-loom weavers find themselves in a precarious position, with an uncertain future ahead. Consequently, industry representatives stressed the need for government intervention to ensure more effective functioning.

Additionally, the Shri Halari Powerloom Weaver Association announced their intention to escalate the matter to Piyush Goyal, Minister of Textile, seeking his prompt assistance in resolving the myriad challenges faced by the industry.
