With an investment of $39.70 million, China’s Fenix Garment Limited plans to establish a high-end apparel manufacturing sector in the Economic Zone (EZ) of Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA). On December 4, 2022, the clothing company and BEPZA signed an agreement to this effect at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka.

According to the manufacturer’s proposal, Fenix Garment will make 10 million pieces of various high-end garment goods each year, including sports jackets, motorcycle safety jackets, coveralls, medical gowns, PPEs, luggage, and backpacks.

Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, the executive chairman of BEPZA, pledged BEPZA’s full assistance for building up the industry and launching operations. The investor was urged by the chairman to build a factory on as much of the site as possible. He also asked that the manufacturing building be constructed so that renewable energy could be generated on its rooftop.

“For the past 12 years, I have lived in Bangladesh and run two factories in Cumilla and Chattogram EPZ. Our third business under BEPZA will be Fenix Garment,” according to Ma Zhuang, chairman of Fenix Garment Limited. He was grateful to BEPZA for offering a one-stop shop to manage the company’s operations inside the economic processing zone (EPZ).

The agreement was signed on behalf of their respective companies by Ma Zhuang, chairman of Fenix Garment Limited, and Ali Reza Mazid, member (investment promotion) of BEPZA. According to the press announcement, the factory will offer 15,820 Bangladeshi nationals’ jobs.

It is important to note that BEPZA EZ, the company’s largest project, is situated on 1138.55 acres of land in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar, Mirsharai, Chattogram. A total of 15 businesses, including Fenix Garment, have inked agreements with BEPZA to set up factories here. $363.65 million is the total amount of the companies’ proposed investments. Buildings for factories are already being constructed by three companies. By the beginning of 2023, BEPZA anticipates that one of the plants will begin producing products.
