AATCC Announces 2023 Student Chapter Award Winners

The AATCC student chapters select a graduating senior each year to receive recognition for their academic excellence and service to the chapter, the school, and society. Each chapter prize recipient received a diploma, a copy of the book Colour Vision and Technology, and an official AATCC graduation cord this year from the AATCC. A free year of AATCC membership is also given to award winners when they start their professional lives.

The following colleges have chosen to give this prize to a senior this year:

  1. Rebecca Dillenberger of the Fashion Institute of Technology Afifa Farooq of the NED University of Engineering and Technology.
  2. Becca Ziegler from Oregon State University; Brianna O’Doherty from the University of Delaware
  3. Kristine Vivanco Fashion Institute of Technology at Virginia Tech.Rebecca Dillenberger is a student at who is majoring in the department of textile development and marketing. fashion technology institute.

Her field research will be concentrated on the sustainability and economics of the Peruvian alpaca farming business after receiving the Global Scholar Award to study abroad in Peru for the Winter 2023 International Trade Practicum programme. In May 2022, she was awarded the President’s Sustainability Grant to develop FIT’s Natural Dye Garden. To better serve the hyper-local urban environment, this money was used to encourage higher yield and growing techniques. Rebecca received the James I. Spiegel Dean’s Award for outstanding achievement in the TDM AAS programme in May 2021 and the Department of Student Life Executive Board Member of the Year Award for outstanding leadership in the AATCC FIT Chapter in May 2022.

Previously, Rebecca She supplemented her academic studies during the COVID-19 break by enrolling in online certification courses for 3D printing software at the University of Illinois and sustainable fashion at the Copenhagen Business School. During her internship, she used denim swatches that are often discarded to make a sustainable purse. Afifa has consistently participated in extracurricular activities without allowing them affect how well she does in school. She performed community service throughout her academic career by clearing the area around the institution of trash and planting trees.

Afifa began her employment with the AATCC NED student branch in her first year as a member of the creativity team due to her tremendous interest for creative work. Her commitment, skill in writing, and communication helped her land the job. in 2022 of the Head of Content. As the Head of Content for the AATCC NED chapter’s Facebook page, she wrote content for posts there. She wrote reports for planned events and used relevant keywords to increase the articles’ exposure on the website. In 2023, Afifa was chosen to serve as the Chapter’s vice president. She helped with the design of the AATCC NED Chapter booth during the 5th International Textile Conference while serving as vice president. She was also exceptional in organising a fundraiser for Pakistan’s flood victims, during which PKR 30,000 was raised by selling hand-knitted/printed items manufactured by students in the department of textile engineering at NEDUET.

State University of Oregon

A BS in apparel design will be awarded to Becca Ziegler. with a minor from Oregon State University in organisational leadership. She also got four more scholarships in addition to the two-year AATCC Western Regional Scholarship. Becca also participated in the Academia Italiana study abroad programme in Florence, Italy, where she studied fashion design. She recently finished an internship as a Digital Materials Specialist with Browzwear after having a summer internship as a Design Intern at the Children’s Place.  She is currently working as a marketing intern at a nearby web design and digital marketing firm.

At Oregon State, Becca presently serves as president of the AATCC student chapter.  She has strong organisational abilities to her role. The combination of these abilities and her natural warmth towards students shine through in committee assignments, planning meetings for fashion shows, and officer meetings. and the busy schedule of events that keep the club active. She attends College of Business events like career fairs, leadership conferences, and student recruiting on behalf of the AATCC chapter as a student club officer.

Becca organises service trips to the Dominican Republic for spring break and works with Young Life as a student leader.

College of Delaware

At the University of Delaware, Brianna O’Doherty is majoring in fashion merchandising and management and has a strong passion for textiles. Through her projects in the two foundational textile classes, she continually researched sustainable materials and production methods, earning outstanding scores that propelled her to the top of her class. Using the ‘From Ideas to Action’ module of her Certificate of Design & Creative Making programme. Throughout the training, Brianna developed a thorough understanding of how to start a business from scratch and how to transform an idea into a viable business practise. In order to become the transformational sort of leader that the fashion and textile industry needs, she intends to use the lessons she gained in social entrepreneurship to impact the business decisions she will make in the future, whether they are for her own firm or a company she will work for.

As the Vice President of Fashion x Textiles for the University of Delaware’s AATCC student chapter, Brianna has been engaged in organising and coordinating a number of member activities, including a class on making a macrame water bottle holder and a garment swap. Her upbeat spirit and cheery disposition have had a beneficial impact on the increasing number of new student members.

The Virginia Tech

Kristine Vivanco has demonstrated noteworthy commitment and success in both the academic and artistic sides of Virginia Tech’s Fashion Merchandising and Design Major. She has served as the vice president of the AATCC chapter at Virginia Tech, a teaching assistant in textile classes, and a consumer behaviour researcher for undergraduates. For the Virginia Tech Fashion Show in 2023, Kristine has experience developing goods for the university and managing social media advertising. Her dedication and unwavering enthusiasm for fashion have allowed her to retain a good GPA.

Kristine, the vice president of the AATCC chapter, is an enthusiastic event planner and organiser who loves community and effective leadership. She has prepared. and supplied materials for her chapter to execute group activities related to textiles. She has also established interpersonal connections within her chapter to maintain enthusiasm and excitement toward learning and experimenting with textiles.
