The Brazilian volleyball team’s indoor and beach jerseys for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris will feature LYCRA’s COOLMAX EcoMade fabric, which is made entirely of textile waste. On June 27, Brazil’s volleyball day, these outfits debuted with a grand projection atop Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer statue.

Athletes can keep cool and dry thanks to COOLMAX® EcoMade fiber, which transfers perspiration from the body to the fabric’s surface, where it evaporates. This fiber reduces environmental impact because it is created from pre-consumer textile waste scraps and performs similarly to virgin polyester. Additionally, the jerseys have 8% LYCRA® fabric, which improves fit and mobility.

“We are thrilled that Brazil’s volleyball uniforms feature 92% COOLMAX® EcoMade fiber made from textile waste and 8% LYCRA fiber,” said Nicolas Banyols, chief commercial officer of The LYCRA Company, about the partnership. Customers of various abilities may now enjoy the advantages of performance-fiber-infused sportswear and activewear, guaranteeing improved comfort and performance for all.

The jerseys’ sustainable design and source of inspiration were emphasized by Camila de Paula Souza, Style Manager at Body Work | Riachuelo: “We wanted the fabric to be cutting-edge and future-focused, even though the 1984 Brazilian volleyball team’s silver medal-winning suit served as the primary influence for the design of this jersey. This cloth is manufactured from textile waste and is intended to be comfortable; it is a win-win situation for athletes.
