State Industries Minister Shahnawaz Hussain instructed authorities on Sunday to produce a detailed project report (DPR) for the revival of the Bihar Institute of Silk and Textiles (BIST).
Shahnawaz went to BIST, which had been closed for quite some time. He instructed Khadi Mall CEO Ashok Sinha to keep an eye on the proposal to revive the BIST. The minister stated that the institute provides instruction in the fields of handloom textiles, silk, and other relevant fields of study.
DM of Bhagalpur BIST’s resurrection is to be coordinated by Subrat Kumar Sen and other authorities. BIST was founded in 1922 and reorganised in 1978 under the directorate of handloom and sericulture in the department of industries. It offered practical and educational diploma courses in silk and textiles, as well as BTech programmes (textile) Two-year diploma studies in several fields of textile engineering were started. However, there is an acute shortage of academic teachers and staff.
