BASF has inaugurated a second polymer dispersions production line at its Daya Bay site in Huizhou, China in response to increasing local demand. This expansion highlights the company’s commitment to its regional customers and improves delivery times by being located near raw material suppliers. The enhanced production capacity will allow BASF to better serve industries such as paints, construction, packaging, and adhesives.
BASF is committed to developing new products in China to meet growing demands. The company is expanding production capacity to meet the needs of various industries, including the battery industry. With products like Licity and Basonal Power, BASF is addressing the demand for anode binders in lithium-ion batteries. The name change from BASF Paper Chemicals Huizhou to BASF Specialty Material Huizhou reflects the company’s broader product portfolio. Andreas Fechtenkoetter, senior vice president of Dispersions Asia Pacific at BASF, emphasized the importance of expanding production capacity to meet the increasing demand for batteries in China and the wider Asia Pacific region.
BASF continues to drive innovation in traditional industries with its IO-Hybrid Technology, offering additional benefits to customers. Interior wall coatings with this technology enhance opacity, improve design aesthetics, and provide antimicrobial properties. This technology also reduces VOC emissions by eliminating the need for in-can biocides in paints. The Daya Bay plant, established in 2012, has been crucial in supporting growth in Southern China. The groundbreaking for its second production line was in Q4 2022, and by Q2 2024, the new line is fully operational. This expansion showcases BASF’s commitment to innovation and meeting industry needs globally.
