Australia has pledged to promote recycling of soft plastics.

Three important projects are funded by this money.A facility expansion for AUD 6 million will allow Pro-Pac Group, a packaging company, to produce 11,000 metric tons of soft plastic packaging with a 30% recycled content. 14 jobs will be created by this initiative.

Over AUD 5 million will be given to recycler Naula to improve its sorting and processing skills. 61 jobs will be created in the process of processing 32,000 tons of soft and mixed polymers for use in food-contact packaging. Green hydrogen

AUD 4 million will be given to Sustainable Plastic Solutions so that they may install machinery that will recycle 8,000 tons of agricultural plastics and create 25 jobsThis investment expands on a prior AUD $20 million fund established for a Kilburn, South Australia, soft plastics facility. The AUD 250 million Recycling Modernization Fund in Australia is funding these projects, which are meant to increase recycling capacity for a range of materials. Co-investments are anticipated to bring the fund’s total value to AUD $1 billion.

With only 18% of plastic packaging recycled in 2023, Australia’s national aim of recycling 70% of packaging by 2025 is unlikely to be achieved.Nationwide prohibitions on soft plastic bags are among the new measures implemented in the wake of the demise of the REDcycle program.
