New Delhi: The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) made a notable impact at the Bharat Mobility Global Auto Expo 2025, India’s premier automotive event, held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The ASDC’s stalls, inaugurated by President F R Singhvi, were designed to highlight the council’s crucial efforts in skilling and emphasize the need to attract young talent to the automotive sector.
At the expo, F R Singhvi, also the JMD of Sansera Engineering Pvt Ltd, spoke about how the event aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a greener India, focusing on key areas like advanced energy storage, green hydrogen, and e-mobility. He stressed, “The battery is the core of this industry,” referencing the India Battery Manufacturing Vision, which projects 2.6 million jobs and a USD 35 billion investment by 2035. Singhvi also discussed the rapid rise of electric vehicle (EV) sales and the government’s ambitious target of 30% fleet electrification by 2030.
Singhvi emphasized the need for up to 2 lakh skilled professionals in the automotive sector by 2030 to meet the demands of EV growth. He noted, “The biggest challenge in the auto industry is the shortage of skilled manpower ready for the electric vehicle sector.” He further highlighted that achieving 100% localization of EV components will require the addition of 30,000 EV-ready workers annually.
Vinkesh Gulati, Vice President of ASDC, projected significant growth in India’s domestic EV market, underscoring the importance of rapid upskilling, reskilling, and new skill development to stay ahead of global trends. Gulati explained, “The shift from Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to EVs requires expertise across multiple engineering disciplines, with minimal overlap between ICE and EV technologies.”
Arindam Lahiri, CEO of ASDC, reaffirmed the purpose of the stalls in showcasing the importance of skilling for the EV sector and attracting young professionals. He emphasized the need for stronger ties between the industry and academic institutions, advocating for more student exposure to career opportunities within the automotive field. ASDC remains dedicated to closing the industry-academia gap through faculty involvement and regular student interactions.
In addition, ASDC set up a stall at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi, where they showcased their skilling programs. The council emphasized the critical need for hiring assessed and certified professionals to reduce skill mismatches during recruitment. Expo attendees were encouraged to explore ASDC’s initiatives and collaborate in addressing the skill gaps facing the automotive industry.
