- Innovative polymer Hydropol breaks down without forming harmful microplastics
Expert in polymer-based material technologies that can meet large-scale performance and environmental requirements, Aquapak Polymers Ltd. announced today that Debbie Luffman, a specialist in sustainability and circular economy, has joined the board as an advisor.
Debbie has worked in the fashion, textile, and sustainable business industries for more than 20 years. At now, she is the director of Think Circular, a change agency that assists companies in seizing opportunities by utilizing a circular approach to design, sourcing, and investigating substitute modes of production and consumption.
She held the position of Product Director for fourteen years at Finisterre, a Bcorp and a pioneer in the outdoor clothing industry. In this role, she oversaw bold innovation efforts, established new business models, and forged strategic alliances to promote circularity. In addition, Debbie tutors’ students in the Cambridge Institute for Sustainable Leadership’s Business Sustainability Management course, facilitates carbon literacy at Fashion Declares, and serves as a trustee for the environmental behavior change nonprofit Hubbub.
The Advisory Board offers counsel and suggestions to assist Aquapak’s management team as they start a thrilling new era of international expansion and innovation. This includes figuring out how to use its HydropolTM polymer technology in various applications. UK-developed and -produced, HydropolTM is soluble, non-toxic, and acceptable for use in maritime environments. Items created using HydropolTM are completely biodegradable, leaving no trace of hazardous microplastics in the event that they leak into the environment, and are safe for use in the current recycling procedures.
“Debbie’s experience in the fashion and textiles sector is highly relevant to us as it is an important strategic market opportunity for Hydropol technology,” stated Mark Lapping, Chief Executive Officer of Aquapak, in response to Debbie’s appointment. Our Hydropol clothing bags have already been substituted for traditional single-use plastic by a number of firms as part of their dedication to sustainability and the circular economy. We’re excited to collaborate closely with Debbie to increase our market share.
Debbie Luffman said:
“I work with many different businesses who are committed to the circular economy. Moving to sustainable packaging with better end of life options is a big part of meeting this challenge, so I am delighted to be joining Aquapak’s advisory board and helping develop and promote its ground-breaking Hydropol technology.”
To help reduce plastic packaging pollution Aquapak has developed Hydropol™, a unique new polymer which is soluble and non-toxic to marine life. Hydropol™ can be used as an alternative to conventional plastic in a wide variety of applications as it provides the same functionality and performance but without the associated environmental problems. It is currently used to make products such as garment bags, offering all the necessary features of traditional polybags: strength and puncture resistance; clarity of film; and protection from leakages and dirt.
Crucially, Hydropol garment bags present zero end-of-life issues for consumers and brands. They can be disposed of in existing domestic waste streams without contaminating other recyclable products or they can be dissolved immediately in hot water at home without producing harmful micro-plastics. They are also compostable and degrade harmlessly on land or in the ocean.
