The government said Thursday that India’s exports of apparel and textiles, including handicrafts, climbed 7% from April to October to reach USD 21.35 billion. Export exports from this industry came to USD 20 billion over the same period of the preceding fiscal year, FY 2023-24.

During the April–October period of FY 2024–25, the Ready-Made Garments (RMG) category accounted for the largest share (41 percent) of the total exports (USD 21,358 million), followed by Cotton Textiles (33 percent, USD 7,082 million), Man-Made Textiles (15 percent, USD 3,105 million)

From April to October of FY 2024–25, exports of all major commodities increased compared to the same period in FY 2023–24, with the exception of wool and handloom, which saw declines of 19% and 6%, respectively. In the meantime, the total import of clothing, textiles, and handicrafts fell by 1% from April to October of FY 2024–2025 (USD 5,425 million) to the same period in FY 2023–2024 (USD 5,464 million).

Due to a demand-supply imbalance in this industry, the category of man-made textiles, which accounted for USD 1,859 million in imports, had the greatest share (34 percent) of all imports (USD 5,425 million) during the April–October period of FY 2024–25.
