Garment factories will be established in several divisional secretariats of Sri lanka’s Anuradhapura district to address youth unemployment issue there, according to the country’s irrigation minister Duminda Dissanayake, who is the member of parliament from the district. He visited the Thirappane Garment Factory and held a discussion with its staff recently.
As only a few garment units are situated in Anuradhapura, a large number of young people work outside the district, he noted.
The government will support investors through the ministry of industry to establish new garment factories, renovate the existing factories, and reopen the closed factories in Anuradhapura, he was quoted as saying by a Sri Lankan media report.
The preliminary work on this has already commenced in several divisional secretariats, he added.
