Mexico and China were two nations that experienced worryingly reduced sourcing by US denim clothing customers last April owing to COVID-19. According to the most recent OTEXA statistics, the shipping of denim clothing from these two nations to the United States has stabilised.

According to Apparel Resources’ study of OTEXA statistics, the United States imported 1.85 million dozen denim apparels in April ’21, a 50.64 percent increase over April ’20.
Mexico contributed 287,378 dozen to this amount, representing a huge 648.34 percent year-on-year increase in April ’21, while China accommodated 251,458 dozen worth of denim garments, representing a massive 253.53 percent year-on-year increase.
In terms of value, Mexico increased their cargo from US $ 5.18 million in April 2020 to US $ 34.71 million in April 21 — an increase of nearly 570 percent.
China raised its denim apparel exports to US $ 20.07 million in April of this year, up from US $ 6.50 million in April of last year, although the M-o-M statistics are not encouraging. The country’s value-added inflation rate fell by 23.71 percent.
It is worth mentioning that the United States increased its imports of the aforementioned category by 64.21 percent in value, totaling US $ 184.31 million in April of this year. Despite the meteoric ascent of Mexico and China, Bangladesh remained at the top of the rankings in terms of volume-wise denim clothing export to the United States in April 21.
In April of this year, the world’s second largest garment exporter exported 373,693 dozen denim outfits to the United States, representing a 13.71 percent year-on-year rise.
Though US denim imports have grown year on year, the month on month numbers are less than encouraging. In terms of value, the country’s imports fell by 23.71 percent compared to March of this year, while volumes fell by 26.43 percent.
