Paris Fashion Week kicked off on July 6, 2020, with an interesting line of Dior collections. The French couture house Christian Dior replaced their traditional catwalks with these mini mannequins, in order to showcase their intricate designs and couture collection.

Inspired by female surrealist artists such as photographer Lee Miller, Dior’s collection were fitted on to 37 mini mannequins and were presented to the public in form of a film, shot by Italian director Matteo Garrone, known for the film “Gamorrah”. These mannequins will later be dispatched to top clients around the world.

Considering the current crisis and the toll it has taken on the lives of everyone around the world, designer Maria Grazia Chiuri in an interview reflected on her experience and stated, “We made this project in a very particular moment of our lives.” Having started this project during lockdown in Rome, the designer continuously coordinated with seamstresses and production crew who were themselves located in different places.

Also known as travelling miniatures, this idea was last used by the French couture houses during the Second World War, in order to ensure that the products reached their clients safe and sound.
