ZDHC forms alliance of resources with three organisations            The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), ZDHC Foundation, Textile Exchange and Apparel Impact Institute, in September announced new partnerships to accelerate impact and drive new efficiencies for industry. The four organisations have documented their efforts with letters of intent clarifying their roles and commitments to cooperation in four areas: programmes and tools; impact management and funding; global implementation; and administration and infrastructure. The organisations have also highlighted their commitment to resolve persistent barriers between areas of impact and tiers of the supply chain. They were expected to release more detail about their collective efforts before year-end and announce engagement opportunities for the industry.

Make Fashion Circular welcomes six new participants

Six new participants in July joined Make Fashion Circular, an initiative that drives collaboration between industry leaders and key stakeholders to strive towards creating a circular economy for fashion. These participants include: Fast Retailing, Guess, Lee, Nordstrom, Vestiaire Collective and Wrangler. Of these, Guess, Lee, and Wrangler are part of Make Fashion Circular’s Jeans Redesign, created to transform the way jeans are produced in line with guidelines created by the Foundation and 40 denim experts across the industry. The aim is to ensure jeans last longer, can be easily recycled, and are made in a way that is better for the environment and health of the producers.

Cotton Australia supports project protecting biodiversity

Industry trade group Cotton Australia and the Cotton Research and Development Corporation (CRDC) in October announced support to a partnership between iconic brands Country Road and Landcare Australia to improve the biodiversity on cotton farms in the Namoi Valley of New South Wales. Funded by a corporate contribution and funds raised via the sale of Verified Australian Cotton Heritage Sweats, Country Road will contribute a minimum $600,000 over three years, with funds raised going to support biodiversity restoration projects. The initial project will be implemented in the Namoi Valley, a region affected by biodiversity loss and in need of restoration.
