Former Miss World Manushi Chhillar joined the roster of brand ambassadors such as Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma, actor Ranveer Singh and sprinter Hima Das for sportswear brand Adidas. The beauty pageant winner will work in support of the footwear giant’s app-based fitness challenge where guided workout hours logged in are converted into monetary proceeds for frontline workers amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The challenge was also launched to motivate quarantined consumers to do indoor workouts during the lockdown.
“Playing a sport cannot be a hobby. Fitness should be a lifestyle. With this partnership, I can spread this message and motivate people to work out at home in these unprecedented times,” said Chhillar in a virtual media briefing. Chhillar was crowned Miss World in 2017 after she won the Femina Miss India pageant the same year.
“Manushi’s historic win and the ability to connect with the youth and women consumers made her an obvious choice for the brand,” said Manish Sapra, senior marketing director of Adidas India. He added that India currently ranks eighth globally in this challenge that supports the WHO Covid-19 Response Fund where Adidas donates USD 1 for every hour of fitness activity clocked on their training apps.
While relaxations have seen establishments such as shops, salons and restaurants open for business, gyms continue to remain shut. With this, online and app-based fitness tutorials are booming in the new normal for netizens who miss the access to physical training to work out in the safety of their homes.
