CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIES IN MEDICAL & APPAREL TEXTILE

MANTRA Jointly withShri Vaishnav Vidhyapeeth Vishwavidhyalaya, Indore,Organized Two Day National Conference TEXCON-2022 (Virtual) on 22nd and 23rd February 2022. The theme of which was “Challenges and Opportunities in Medical and Apparel Textiles”.

In the inaugural function on 22nd February 2022, the chief guest Mrs. Roop Rashi, I.A. & AS, Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, and Government of India participated as chief guest. Vice Chancellor of Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya, Dr. Upinder Dhar in his welcome address highlighted the importance of the Texcon conference.On this occasion the Director of Manmade Textiles Research Association, Dr. P.P. Raichurkar, spoke about the unique opportunity for students to interact with academicians and industrialists through this national conference, Texcon 2022. He discussed on cotton value chain, silk value chain, weaving development in different regions of India. He stressed that technology-upgraded textiles are happening around the world, but not in academia, so there is a need for proper linkage between academia, industry and research. There is a huge opportunity in technical textiles in India as the Government of India has invested huge amounts in the technical textiles sector. He also asked the students to take advantage of entrepreneurship opportunities in technical textiles especially medical textiles.

After that, chief guest of the inauguration ceremony,Mrs. Roop Rashi introduced everyone to the current economic development of the current Indian textile industry. She mentioned that India ranks first in cotton production, and meets 25 percent of the world’s cotton requirement. She also mentioned that India ranks first in natural fiber production, and first in natural spun yarn production. She asked the students to take advantage of the opportunities in apparel and technical textiles and become an entrepreneur. She emphasized to focus on sustainable and efficient product development, while also towards adding value to the product, and stressed on processing and maintaining quality. He inspired the students to take advantage of the opportunities to lead the world.

In this conference six technical papers were presented by faculty of MANTRA. This includes a paper by Director Dr. P .P. Raichurkar and a paper by former Director Dr. S. K. Basu. MANTRA President Mr. Rachnikant Bachkaniwala also presented a paper on Covid-19 and small scale textile industry. The conference was conducted in virtual more where more than 100 delegates participated online.
