A new business in Australia BlockTexx has began construction on what it says will be the world’s first textile recycling factory capable of sorting and recycling cotton and polyester fibre mixes on a large scale.
The firm has purchased a property in Logan, Queensland, and is now working on the final design of the facility, with the process of buying plant equipment for the site already begun.
According to BlockTexx, manufacturing will begin early next year at the factory, which will recycle around 4,000 tonnes of textiles in its first year, utilizing the company’s patented Separation of Fibre Technology (SOFT) technology.
BlockTexx is working with engineering and construction company Wiley on Australia’s first textile recycling facility. The SOFT plant will produce more than 50,000 tonnes of recycled textiles over the next four years. BlockTexx co-founder Graham Ross said: “We are excited to work with Wiley on the development of our first commercial scale facility. We can’t wait to see how this facility makes a difference”
