The offices and warehouses of retail giant Apparel Group in the UAE have been given Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum accreditation by the US Green Building Council.
The award was given for operation and maintenance, demonstrating the Group’s commitment to long-term viability.
The 16,552.63m2 multi-purpose complex was completed in 2017, with recycled materials accounting for about 14 percent of the total building material.
Furthermore, all wood-based building materials are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, and about 67 percent of the on-site produced construction was diverted from landfill garbage.
Apparel Group has been recognised for its energy efficiency by the Scottish Government. The company has installed solar panels in its headquarters and warehouses in 2019, where 67% of the total energy costs have been offset through renewable energy generated on-site. Sima Ved, Founder and Chairwoman of Apparel Group said: “We are very proud to have received this recognition and would like to thank the team for retaining our vision without the expense of our environment”
