AG has long been associated with high-quality denim. And it’s now on a quest to bring that same reputation to knitwear.
The Los Angeles-based label introduced its Jersey Knit line on Thursday, a selection of men’s and women’s T-shirts, tanks, Henleys, polos, and lightweight hoodies with a luxuriously soft hand feel.
AG’s new knitwear collection is the product of a partnership with the company’s denim expertise. In comparison to the industry standard of one full inch, each garment is projected to shrink by one-quarter of an inch during its lifetime. The collection’s distinguishing feature is its lightweight, 100 percent cotton fabric created with an unique twisted yarn. During the manufacturing process, the S-twist yarn is spun counter-clockwise to produce a right-handed twill, whereas the Z-twice spun yarn produces a left-handed twill.
The 15-piece collection of breezy clothes in subdued colour palettes is perfect for the summer season. The collection is the second part in AG’s Basic Essentials programme, after a Ribbed Knit line that debuted in January. It introduced a seamless denim collection last year, which bridged the gap between quality denim and comfort loungewear.
AG’s most recent projects also demonstrate the company’s commitment to more sustainable techniques, with a vertical facility that employs best-in-class technologies such as ozone technology, laser finishing, solar energy, and water recycling. AG now recycles over 100,000 gallons of water per day and plans to recycle more than 50 million gallons per year in the future. AG’s Jersey Knit collection is currently available online and in stores, with prices ranging from $60 to $118.
