India marks its 75 th Independence Day on 15 th August this year. The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is a part of these festivities. Tirupur, the textile hub famous for manufacturing of flags and banners is seeing a huge surge in the demand for the national flags owing to the Independence Day in the country.

According to the reports by the flag makers, the demand has increased over 100 times the regular demand. This is mainly due to the above- mentioned campaign which is urging the citizens to hoist the national flags in their houses, instead of hoisting the flags only in schools, colleges and government offices.

Generally, only a few units in the city make flags. However, with an increasing demand this year, some of the garment manufacturing units have also started making flags. The prices of the flags have gone up due to factors like limited time and shortage of cloth.

Antony, a local manufacturer said that generally the flags were made out of cotton. But this time due to the high demand, alternatives like satin and synthetic cloths are also being used. Many traders are obtaining the flags from Surat and then selling them over in Tirupur. Another, wholesale trader said that the flags are manufactured all over the nation and the Postal Department has started selling them. Despite this, there is a high demand for flags in the Tirupur belt as many orders are coming in from the Southern States.
