Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has announced the state government’s plans to introduce a new textile policy aimed at attracting a substantial Rs 10,000 crore in investments and generating two lakh new jobs. This strategic move is expected to significantly bolster industrial development within the state.

The Chief Minister emphasized the policy’s focus on creating large-scale employment opportunities, particularly for women, through the establishment of numerous garment factories. The draft policy, which was approved by Naidu during a meeting at the secretariat on Tuesday, outlines a comprehensive approach to revitalize the textile industry in Andhra Pradesh.

Key aspects of the new textile policy include:

  • Incentivizing Textile Manufacturing: The state government will provide enhanced capital subsidies and additional incentives to encourage the establishment of weaving, processing, garment manufacturing, and integrated textile units.
  • Empowering Marginalized Communities: The policy will prioritize the empowerment of marginalized communities, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, minorities, and women, by offering special incentives.
  • Elevating Andhra Pradesh as a Textile Hub: The new policy aims to position Andhra Pradesh as a leading destination for textile manufacturing in India. By surpassing the previous 2018-2023 policy, the state government seeks to attract significant investments and create a thriving textile industry.
  • Rural Development and Women’s Empowerment: The policy is expected to contribute to rural development by providing employment opportunities, especially for women in rural areas.

The draft policy will be presented to the state cabinet for final approval. Additionally, Chief Minister Naidu reviewed the state’s leather policy and emphasized the need for increased efforts to ensure its effective implementation.

This ambitious textile policy underscores the Andhra Pradesh government’s commitment to industrial growth, job creation, and economic development. By focusing on key areas such as investment attraction, job creation, and skill development, the state aims to establish itself as a major player in the global textile industry.
