In an effort to encourage circularity, US retailer Target Corp. is asking consumers to trade in their used denim goods as part of its “first” chain-wide denim take-back event. As part of Target’s circularity initiatives, customers can recycle unwanted jeans in exchange for a one-time 20% discount voucher.

Target said that by preventing outgrown or used denim from ending up in landfills and reducing the amount of things people need for daily living, it is enabling customers to make “more sustainable” decisions. From August 4 through August 10, customers can recycle up to five outgrown or old denim items of any brand in-store and utilize Target Circle to earn 20% off a new denim apparel purchase.

Customers may apply the coupon code to any denim purchase, including national names like Levi’s and brands owned by Target like Universal Thread, Wild Fable, Goodfellow & Co., and Cat & Jack.
The denim take-back event, according to Target, is a reaction to the increased interest from consumers in goods and initiatives that lessen waste and support the retailer’s mission to develop and curate inclusive, sustainable brands and experiences.
