There are uncertainities which are continuing over the National Textile Corporation (NTC) mills.
The Union Budget states that the allocation of RS. 220 crore will be made to support the PSUs. This will be enough to fulfill the demands and grants of the FY2023-24. This will support the PSUs mainly along with the business operations and will provide a grant to the VRS and the employees of the PSUs under thr guidance of the Ministry of Textiles. The amount of Rs.220 crores will be used for NTC and the British India Coorporation
However, the NTC mills need Rs.1000 crore for the VRS workers. The mills are shut since 2020 due to the pandemic. The NTC mills in TamilNadu provided employment to 5000 people. The trade union leaders are planning to meet Union Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal for the same.
According to the sources, “We are told that of the Rs.220 crore, Rs. 120 crore will be for NTC and its long pending payment from the government to the NTC. So, uncertainity continues over operation of the mills”.
