The state of Andhra Pradesh benefits greatly economically from the flourishing aquaculture sector. It is the perfect location for aquaculture due to its favourable climatic conditions, abundant water resources, and lengthy coastline of about 974 kilometres. AP is a key player in the nation’s seafood exports, coming in first place for egg, fish, and shrimp production and securing the top spot for marine exports in 2021–2022.

Aquaculture has been adopted in the State. 1.38 million farmers own 2.12 lakh hectares. There are 111 cold storage facilities with a total storage capacity of 2.27 metric tonnes for aqua products in the State. To assist the industry, the government offers aqua farmers who cultivate in areas of less than 10 acres that come within aqua zones discounted electricity. At the moment, 26,000 aquaculture producers are eligible for this subsidy.

The State has also undertaken further initiatives to support the sectors, such as subsidising the construction of ponds and tanks, opening hatcheries, and setting up training programmes for farmers. To guarantee the quality of exported aquaculture goods, a facility for aquatic quarantine has also been established. The State hopes to improve marine connectivity by creating nine fishing harbours and six interior waterways. utilise the second-largest coastline in the nation to its fullest capacity.
