On Thursday, the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) co-hosted a webinar on ‘Sourcing of Polyester Fabric’ with Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL).
“From day one, we believed that we had enough MMF fibre and yarn, but we did not have the appropriate fabric,” stated AEPC Chairman Dr. A Sakthivel. The webinar was intended to promote polyester fabric import substitution and to investigate new sources. Partners from Reliance Industries shared their fabric supply chain to India and kept them up to date on new fabric procurement.
MMF accounts for 72 percent of worldwide textile fibre usage, while natural fibre accounts for 28 percent. MMF garment accounts for 1.6 billion dollars of India’s total apparel export, accounting for barely 10% of overall apparel export. The global commerce in MMF fibre clothing is projected to be over $500 billion.
