The association strives in finding new avenues of activities to assist members in order to boost their competitiveness in the domestic as well as international markets through technology upgradation, quality improvement and cost-effectiveness. Thus, the Association has transformed its role as a proactive Partner rather than only as a facilitator with the implementation of digitalization and smart working.
Bhavesh Patel, President, ITAMMA delivering the Welcome Address
Mr N. D. Mhatre, Director General (Tech) in his opening remarks informed “As we all know that today, we are in an era which is driven by fast-paced technological developments, demanding high level of creativity and innovation. It’s a time that demands responsible and sustainable developments rather than techno-commercial developments in the textile machines and accessories which can be accepted especially by the very important stage of the User Industry i.e. Garmenting, Retail and Fashion. Today through digitalization and AI one can easily track the details of the flow and operations of fibre, yarn, and fabric up to the Garment, retail and fashion stages. Thus, connecting the manufacturers and processors of textiles (fibre, yarn, fabric) and machines/spares/accessories with the Garment, retail and fashion industry for information and requirements of the goods as per the Global market.
Mr. N. D. Mhatre, Director General (Tech) delivering his opening remarks
Mr Anil Singhee, Managing Director, ADDON HOLDINGS PVT. LTD. Delivered his Guest of Honour speech on “How the Textile Machinery and Accessories industry moves forward to fulfil the expectation of the Garment, Fashion and Retail Industry.”
Mr Singhee informed that it is important to understand the chain of Machine Manufacturer (Maker of the machine), Fashion Designer (Designers of the product), Garment Manufacturer (Creator of the products from the machines), Retailer (End consumer touch point). Also, it is necessary to know the Thoughts about the chain, Machine Manufacturing is a process-driven exercise where the efforts are towards creating a device that is able to consistently do the activities day in and day out. They are driven based on calculations and standardization. On the other-hand Fashion Designing is driven primarily by creativity and the efforts are towards creating something new each time. Thus this blending of two opposites is what makes this textile industry a very exciting space which has a unique place for the country’s growth.
In regard to Potential, he said that Bharat’s garment manufacturing sector still has a large scope to expand driven primarily by huge domestic consumption and further supported by export possibilities. We are yet to create a Global brand from Bharat but we are still paying a premium for brands from the West. On the contrary, we have the Engineering talent and the worker base, and so we need to set a longer-term vision.
The need of garment industry is a leapfrog in terms of Sustainable initiatives – which demands creating machines to Reduce water usage, Efficient energy usage, Minimize material wastage, Create a safer and ergonomic work environment, Recycling and upcycling, Faster support for spares and customization, be customized to make use of Smart Manufacturing, especially using 5G and IOT.
This will be a great step towards Automation & Digital Integration to increase visibility across the chain Enabling faster decision-making and thereby bringing in efficiency While looking Way forward, at all scales we need to start thinking about investing in R&D, especially creating an edge on customization of existing machines by upgrading them. Keep listening to your customers for their feedback and then follow a continuous improvement cycle. Apply a Modular system to enable faster reconfiguration by reduction of lead time in manufacturing, faster response to changes of the market, reduction of Inventory levels, and Manufacturers to take the lead in creating an ecosystem. The New age manufacturing is Seamless Garment Manufacturing, On Demand Manufacturing, Printing and Customization (especially at the Retail level), and Folding Machines.
General thoughts can be applied where Our Machine Manufacturers should increase their exposure by visiting Global events to understand where the opportunity lies for us, even today the majority of the machines from the simplest to the most complex of the machines are imported or assembled. We need to focus on creating sophisticated machines and leading after-sales service.
ITAMMA needs to take the initiative in creating a “Sample Industry” like the Real Estate industry shows a “Sample Flat” showcasing all the processes end to end and the capabilities, whereby the use of Virtual Technology can be made.
At WHEF, we are trying to get the Textile Industry shifted from the Heavy Industry category to the Garment Industry so that there is a renewed focus and benefits from the Government to help sustain and grow this sector.
To sum up/conclude, the Key actionable is to Invest in R&D, listen to your customers, keep upgrading by increasing exposure, Focus on Sustainability & Smart Manufacturing, develop an ecosystem and build your brand.
