BENGALURU: 2024 was primarily about bringing about change and integrating technology across industries, even if several emerging technologies took center stage. This is our 2024 technology roundup.

AI/Gen AI

In 2024, interest in artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI remained high as businesses of all sizes attempted to incorporate and capitalize on its advantages. They experimented with several use cases, and one of the most notable aspects of 2024 was the large number of businesses that advanced from the proof of concept (POC) stage to the next stage, which is turning the idea into a reality. These technologies have opened up new avenues for efficiency and innovation, from rethinking consumer experiences to automating corporate activities and establishing copilots. Specifically, GenAI has enabled organizations to provide hyper-individualized solutions, according to Nagarro’s chief technology officer Kanchan Ray. This year’s focus on moral and responsible innovation is what really sticks out. The emphasis has moved from discrete technology developments to creating interdependent ecosystems that promote inclusiveness, sustainable growth, and end-to-end corporate efficiency. Similar to the rest of the globe, India has seen a rapid uptake of AI-driven solutions, with notable developments in e-commerce, healthcare, and education.

Digital twin

Another tech that caught the attention was the digital twin. Though it has been widely used for a couple of years now, in 2024, it helped organizations simulate real situations and also their outcomes. Pankaj Vyas, CEO and MD, Siemens Technology and Services, said that they saw a significant increase in developments of smarter systems and solutions for sustainable practices, enabled by the adoption of AI, IoT and digital twins. This has allowed organizations to leverage the strengths of each technology to optimise processes, improve predictive analytics, and accelerate innovation.

“Leveraging real-time data from IOT enabled infrastructure in digital twins and AI applications, helps augment each of these technologies to create high impact outcomes. We are seeing a large number of enterprises actively investing in digital transformation by utilising these technologies across all the workflows. Individually, each technology holds significant potential, but when combined, they hold the potential not just to unlock significant efficiency gains but also are instrumental in meeting sustainability targets,” he says.
