Nabtesco and FLUX Integrate Inductive Encoder Technology into RDS-C Link for SPS 2026 Debut

The new solution combines cycloidal gearbox technology with absolute position measurement, offering up to 22-bit resolution and accuracy of ±18 arcseconds for applications requiring precise positioning.

FLUX GmbH and Nabtesco Precision Europe have partnered to integrate inductive encoder technology into Nabtesco's RDS-C Link, a solution designed for high-precision positioning applications. The system combines cycloidal gearbox technology with an encoder from FLUX's IND-ROT series to measure absolute position directly at the gearbox output, improving position feedback accuracy.

The RDS-C Link will be presented at SPS 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany, from 24–26 November 2026, at Nabtesco's stand in Hall 3A, Booth 426.

FLUX and Nabtesco Combine Encoder and Gearbox Technologies

The RDS-C Link incorporates a specially adapted inductive encoder from FLUX's IND-ROT series. Its contactless measurement technology detects absolute position through a hollow shaft connected to the gearbox output shaft.

The encoder delivers a resolution of up to 22 bits and an accuracy of up to ±18 arcseconds, providing position feedback directly at the output. This arrangement is designed to improve positioning accuracy by accounting for movements at the gearbox output.

The inductive measurement principle also enables operation in demanding environments where dust, contamination and condensation may affect optical sensing systems. The encoder additionally features high electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

The RDS-C Link is intended for applications in which small angular deviations can have significant consequences. These include satellite, antenna and radar systems, irradiation equipment and X-ray systems.

Key Technical Features of the RDS-C Link

The solution incorporates several features for precision positioning and gearbox integration:

  • Direct output measurement: Detects position directly at the output shaft.
  • Positioning under load: Supports precise positioning even under load.
  • Multiturn capability: Provides multiturn position measurement.
  • Deviation compensation: Enables compensation for positioning deviations caused by gearbox compliance, wear and temperature effects.
  • Compact construction: Reduces design and integration effort.

FLUX Comments on the Collaboration

Paul Tutzu, Managing Director at FLUX GmbH, said:

“We're proud to be working with Nabtesco, a company with more than 40 years of experience in high-precision gears and drive solutions,” said Paul Tutzu, Managing Director at FLUX GmbH. “The RDS-C Link shows what's possible when precision mechanics and advanced position sensing come together, and we look forward to seeing it unveiled at SPS.”

RDS-C Link to Be Presented at SPS 2026

The RDS-C Link will be showcased at SPS 2026, scheduled for 24–26 November 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany. Nabtesco will present the solution at Hall 3A, Booth 426.

SPS has been bringing together decision-makers, developers and visionaries from around the world for more than three decades. The international exhibition serves as a platform for innovation and industry exchange, while providing insights into emerging trends and technological developments in industrial automation.
