NABARD Holds Seminar on Vigilance, Integrity and Good Governance During Vigilance Awareness Campaign 2026

Former Central Vigilance Commissioner Shri Suresh N. Patel delivers keynote address at Mumbai event

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) organised a seminar on “Vigilance: Strengthening Integrity and Good Governance” on August 25, 2026, at its Head Office in Mumbai as part of the ongoing Vigilance Awareness Campaign 2026, being observed from August 17 to November 16, 2026, under the theme “Probity for Prosperity.”

The seminar featured Shri Suresh N. Patel, Former Central Vigilance Commissioner, Government of India, as the chief guest and keynote speaker.

Senior NABARD Officials Attend Seminar

The programme was attended by Shri G S Rawat, Deputy Managing Director, Dr. Ajay K. Sood, Deputy Managing Director, Shri U Dinesh Shanbhag, Chief Vigilance Officer, senior officials, and employees from NABARD’s Head Office, Regional Offices, Training Establishments, Subsidiaries and District Development Managers across the country.

Welcoming the chief guest, Shri U Dinesh Shanbhag, Chief Vigilance Officer, highlighted Shri Patel’s experience in governance, public administration, banking and vigilance, and acknowledged his contribution towards strengthening integrity, transparency and accountability in public institutions.

Focus on Preventive Vigilance

Addressing the gathering, Shri G S Rawat, Deputy Managing Director, NABARD, emphasised that vigilance should serve as a preventive mechanism rather than being limited to detecting irregularities or imposing punitive measures.

He encouraged NABARD employees to actively participate in the activities planned during the Vigilance Awareness Campaign and highlighted the importance of robust systems and procedures in building an effective preventive vigilance framework.

Keynote Highlights Ethical Governance and Institutional Integrity

In his keynote address, Shri Suresh N. Patel spoke about the role of vigilance in promoting ethical governance, strengthening institutional integrity and building public trust in organisations.

Drawing on his experience as the former Central Vigilance Commissioner, he highlighted activities to be undertaken by organisations during the three-month campaign period. He also shared insights on banking frauds, complaint handling mechanisms, prudent management of Non-Performing Assets (NPAs), adherence to established systems and procedures, and the importance of robust appraisal standards in strengthening accountability and good governance.

The seminar concluded with NABARD reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability and maintaining high standards of ethical governance in carrying out its developmental responsibilities.
