Mondi Develops Corrugated Packaging Solution for Büromodel, Reducing Packing Costs by 20%

New packaging replaces wooden crates, improves logistics efficiency and integrates into existing operations without additional capital investment.
Mondi, a global provider of sustainable packaging and paper, has collaborated with furniture manufacturer Büromodel to develop a customised corrugated packaging solution for shipping acoustic office cabins across Europe and beyond.
The project replaces traditional wooden and plywood crates, which presented health and safety challenges and had become less preferred in export markets including Germany and the UK. The new corrugated packaging has been designed to provide secure transportation while improving product protection during transit.
According to the companies, the solution also addresses mould issues that had previously occurred during sea freight transportation.
Operational Improvements
The transition to corrugated packaging has resulted in several operational benefits. The stackable design allows more efficient use of storage space and supports improved logistics performance.
Compared with Büromodel’s previous in-house wooden crate production process, the new packaging is faster and easier to assemble, reducing both assembly time and labour requirements.
The packaging solution has been integrated into Büromodel’s existing production and logistics operations without requiring additional capital investment. The companies state that the change has reduced packing costs by approximately 20%, mainly due to lower material and operational costs compared with wooden packaging.
Customer and Sustainability Benefits
In addition to operational efficiencies, the recyclable corrugated packaging has contributed to positive customer feedback and supports Büromodel’s environmental objectives. The companies also noted that the new packaging has strengthened the company's brand perception among end users.
Sinan Müsellim, Procurement Manager at Büromodel, commented:
"Moving away from wooden packaging was a strategic decision for us. Mondi’s team understood our operational requirements and worked with us to find a solution we could trust across different markets. That confidence in the packaging is just as important as the efficiency gains."
Metin Morhayim, Sales and Marketing Director at Mondi Corrugated Turkey, added:
"This project shows what is possible when packaging is treated as part of the customer’s operation, not just a protective layer. By working closely with Büromodel, we were able to design a solution that fits their processes and supports their business needs."
